Financial Aid Checklist

Before you apply for aid:

Apply early!
Because of complex federal requirements, it can take several weeks to process your application. Errors will delay your award even more. Campus-based funds are awarded according to need to the earliest eligible applicants.
Note: Funds are awarded on an annual basis so you must apply for financial aid each year!
Apply for a PIN online.
Go to to get a federal financial aid login. This can save you time by allowing you to complete your entire application online. Your parents should also get a PIN online so they can sign your FAFSA (if required) as well.
Be aware if mandatory privacy restrictions.
You must give USU Eastern written permission if you want your parents, spouse, or a third party to have access to your financial aid information.

To apply for financial aid:

Complete your Federal taxes.
Your spouse (if applicable) and/or parent's taxes may also be required.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA).
In order to be considered for the most desirable aid, please make sure your file is complete by April 1. This can be done online at School code 003677.
Apply for admissions.
You can't be awarded until you are fully admitted. You will find application information at
Four Apply for scholarships.
USU Eastern offers a variety of scholarships. Go to for information and scholarship applications.
Five Check your email.
We will notify you if you have unmet requirements or have been offered aid by email. Make sure your check the email account you provided to USU Eastern.  To either verify or change your email address to go Banner Access.
Six Review and accept your awards.
Once you receive your financial aid notice log into Banner Access to review and accept your aid.

After you have been awarded:

Register for classes.
Go to for information about registration and to view the current course schedules and calendars.
Check your charges.
Don't lose your classes! Check your account in Banner Access. If you owe money you must pay the balance before the fee payment deadline to prevent your classes from being dropped.
