We all know the damage that computer viruses can do. Run good virus scanning software on your machine. Keep it updated. Use this software to scan all floppy disks (if you still have these), jump-drives, or other external drives or devices you connect.  Also your virus software should be set up to scan e-mail attachments before you open or run them. 

The Office of Information Technology can recommend anti-virus software that is free for personal use.  For college computers running Windows we are using Microsoft's security essentials.
