Upload Supporting Documents

Upload the following to your application:

  • Secondary school transcripts showing marks received in your last three years of secondary school. (If you are currently in grade 12, a transcript for grade 9 is required.) All years of high school and university must be mailed to International Undergraduate Admissions (see address below) in a sealed envelope. DO NOT open the envelope with the official transcript.

  • Official transcripts for any college or university study you have done. Transcripts must be mailed to International Undergraduate Admissions (see address below) in a sealed envelope. If the transcript is given to you by the school, DO NOT open the envelope with the official transcript.

  • Certified English translations must be provided for transcripts in other languages. (If you need suggestions for certified translation services, please contact International Undergraduate Admissions at usuintl@usu.edu.)

English Language Proficiency

To provide a foundation for academic success, USU requires all undergraduate international students to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency. The English language proficiency may be demonstrated by meeting one of the following. Students must ask the testing agency to send official exam scores to Utah State University (USU).

English language proficiency is required through one of these options:

  • TOEFL Internet-based (iBT) exam score of at least 71. USU also accepts the TOEFL iBT Home Edition exam. 
    The institutional school code for USU is 4857

  • IELTS Academic overall band score of at least 6.0 with minimum of 5.0 on each subscale.*

  • MET score of 52.

  • Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency score of 169.

  • SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 500 or SAT Reading score of at least 27 first administered March 2016.*
    The institution school code for USU is 4857.

  • ACT English score of at least 18.*
    The institution school code for USU is 4276.

  • College/University: Completion of at least 24 credits of post-secondary/university course work taught in the U.S. in English, excluding English as a second language courses.
    Courses must have been taken at an accredited college/university to be considered for direct admission.

  • High School: Passing 3 or more years of mainstream English classes at a U.S. high school with a grade C or higher (excluding English as a second language classes).

*Scores that are more than two years old are not accepted.

English Language Proficiency Appeal

If you believe you have met the English language proficiency, you may complete the English Language Proficiency Appeal form. Applicants from Australia, Canada (except Quebec Province), New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States whose first language is English are exempt from this requirement. Utah State University reserves the right to require proof of English language proficiency from any applicant regardless of their citizenship, if deemed necessary by a university official.

Documents for I-20

All international students who will attend USU Eastern will need a Form I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status.” The Form I-20 is used to apply for a visa to enter the United States.

Immigration laws require international students who wish to study in the U.S. on an F-1 visa show proof of finances for one year. Information on providing the required documents will be provided to students after admission.

Admitted students must provide the following so that the I-20 (the document needed to apply for a U.S. visa):

  • Copy of valid passport

  • Current bank statement in English or certified English translation from the student's sponsor (for example a family member) or, if sponsored by a government agency, a letter of support on agency letterhead.

    The bank statement or letter must:
    • Be prepared on bank letterhead.
    • Be in English.
    • Be liquid assets (such as checking or savings).
    • Include the date of the letter or statement was prepared.
    • Include the full name of the account holder.
    • Give the type of currency used to report balances.
    • Give a current account balance.

  • Affidavit of Financial Support (form to be provided after admission)
  • Copy of Visa (if you have a valid visa)
  • I-20 form — if you are transferring from a school within in the U.S.

Medical Insurance

Students are automatically enrolled in the university health insurance program. If you choose to purchase health insurance on your own, it must meet university health insurance standards, and you are responsible to complete the waiver process. Transfer Credit

If a student has attended a college or university in the U.S., the USU Records Office will check the courses for USU equivalency courses and apply the courses to the student’s Utah State University transcript.

If a student has attended a college or university outside the U.S., a transfer credit review must be requested. Instructions can be found at International Credit Transfer.  If you have questions about this process, please email intlcredittrans@usu.edu.

USU Eastern is authorized to enroll international students on the F-1 visa to study programs listed below:

International students studying at USU on the F-1 visa must have the majority of their classes each semester be face-to-face in order to meet the physical presence requirement to maintain their visa status.
