In the foyer of the Central Instructional Building (CIB), the “Pieta” is a replica of a very important sculpture by the Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Michelangelo created the original “Pieta” in marble between 1498 and 1500.  The “Pieta” is seen as one of the greatest works of sculpture ever created and marks a watershed example of the Italian High Renaissance.

Under exclusive license from the Vatican Observatory Foundation, this masterpiece has been recreated in cast marble from an authorized mold derived from the original.
