A Celebration of Women Piano Composers: Past & Present

Arts/Entertainment | Year of the Woman

This unique piano concert will feature works written by women from 1800 through present, performed by Elzbieta Bilicka, Emily Ezola, Mayumi Matzen, Kevin Olson and new piano faculty member Cahill Smith. The evening will include the world premier of a piece for two-pianos written by Wynn-Anne Rossi, music that was commissioned especially for the USU Year of the Woman. Wynn-Anne Rossi herself will be at the concert to introduce the piece and talk to the audience about her creative process.

Selected music will be illustrated by artist Chuck Landvatter who will be positioned on stage with the musicians. His artwork will be projected for the audience to see come to life in real time as the music is being performed. If that isn’t exciting enough, sculptors Ryoichi Suzuki and Myles Howell will also be presenting new pieces created especially for this concert experience. The sculptures will be positioned on stage and the audience will have a chance to see the pieces up close during the sculpture walk at intermission. Illustrations and sculptures will be auctioned following the concert and a portion of the proceeds will go towards piano area scholarships.
