Admissions & Entrance Exams
The following exams are offered at the USU Eastern Testing Center. These exams may be necessary for admissions and/or entrance into specific programs.
American College Testing (ACT)
The National American College Testing (ACT) is the same test given in many high schools. The most important aspect of this test is that it provides scores that are valid nationally, at any school that accepts ACT as an admission exam. It is available 6 times yearly, always on Saturdays. Students must register through ACT (by mail, phone, or online) approximately 5 weeks in advance of the test date.
Cost: See Current ACT Fees and Services
Register: Online
Scores: Available for online viewing within 2 1/2 weeks after test date
Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a computer-based graduate school admissions test accepted by a limited number of schools and/or graduate programs. Less expensive and much shorter than the GRE, the MAT does not include separate verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections. Used primarily by programs that do not require advanced mathematics skill. The test consists of 120 questions and has a time limit of 60 minutes.
Sample analogies may be found in the booklet titled MAT Candidate Information Booklet, which may be obtained in the Testing Center.

Standard Assessment Test (SAT)
The Standard Assessment Test (SAT) is an undergraduate admissions exam (like the ACT) that is accepted by most institutions and even required by some. While most Utah schools and many institutions in the West look first for ACT scores, the SAT is more commonly required by schools in California and the eastern part of the country. SAT Subject Test includes exams in 20 specific subject areas.
