Placement Exams

The following exams are offered at the USU Eastern Testing Center. These evaluation exams to help determine placement in specified courses.

ALEKS PPL: Placement, Preparation & Learning (Math)

USU uses the ALEKS PPL tool for student placement and to provide students with resources to help them succeed in meeting their Math requirements.

ALEKS Testing Dates:
Summer/Fall 2024 testing starts: February 5, 2024
Deadline for Summer 2024 Semester: Friday, May 3, 2024
Deadline for Fall 2024 Semester: Friday, August 23, 2024

ALEKS PPL is an adaptive learning and assessment platform used by millions of students around the world. ALEKS PPL uses adaptive, open-response questioning to rapidly and accurately assess each student on a wide range of course material in 30 questions or fewer.

ALEKS Information

  • Cost: Free (for the first module), $16 for modules after that
  • Each module contains 5 placement exams and expire after 1 year. This expiration is based on the date that a student first logs in with their A# to ALEKS. Students have access to practice questions through their ALEKS Learning Path after the first placement exam in a module. It is recommended that students practice for at least 3 hours before the next placement exam; this practice may be done at home through a student's Banner account.

Students will access ALEKS through a link in their USU Banner account. You will have to sign in to your account and click on the Math Placement Exam (ALEKS) link.

ALEKS in Banner (can also be accessed through the Student tab in Banner, under Math Placement Exam
