Tips for Incoming Students
- Set realistic goals and stick to them.
- Get involved and attend activities. It will make your college experience more enjoyable.
- Have fun!
- Take time to explore and find out what you love.
- Organization and planning are essential. Find out what works best for you (calendar, planner, organizer, phone reminders, etc.).
- Learn how to prioritize and balance your time.
- Don’t overload or under-schedule yourself.
- Get adequate rest. Avoid all-nighters and cramming before an exam.
- Set a consistent time to go to bed and get up in the morning.
- Attend Student Success Workshops on campus.
- Go to class and make sure you are prepared.
- Learn from your mistakes.
- Study at least 2 hours a day.
- Study in a distraction free environment
- Take a break during the weekends to get your mind off of school (if you can).
- Get to know your instructors, and allow them to get to know you.
- Don’t procrastinate! When you have an assignment due, get it done.
- Exercise regularly to reduce stress, sleep better, and improve your health.
- Maintain a good budget. Live within your means and accumulate as little debt as possible.
- Ask for help if needed.
