Tips for Incoming Students

  • Set realistic goals and stick to them.
  • Get involved and attend activities. It will make your college experience more enjoyable.
  • Have fun!
  • Take time to explore and find out what you love.
  • Organization and planning are essential. Find out what works best for you (calendar, planner, organizer, phone reminders, etc.).
  • Learn how to prioritize and balance your time.
  • Don’t overload or under-schedule yourself.
  • Get adequate rest. Avoid all-nighters and cramming before an exam.
  • Set a consistent time to go to bed and get up in the morning.
  • Attend Student Success Workshops on campus.
  • Go to class and make sure you are prepared.
  • Learn from your mistakes.
  • Study at least 2 hours a day.
  • Study in a distraction free environment
  • Take a break during the weekends to get your mind off of school (if you can).
  • Get to know your instructors, and allow them to get to know you.
  • Don’t procrastinate! When you have an assignment due, get it done.
  • Exercise regularly to reduce stress, sleep better, and improve your health.
  • Maintain a good budget. Live within your means and accumulate as little debt as possible.
  • Ask for help if needed.
