Patron Code of Conduct

Library and Learning Commons

By entering and using the facility, equipment, and resources of USU Eastern’s Library & Learning Commons, ALL PATRONS agree to abide by these following conduct expectations and policies, aligning with USU, local, state and federal laws:

Checkmark Icon Treat all LLC patrons with respect and courtesy, including all staff. This includes refraining from disruptive, dangerous, or threatening behaviors.

Checkmark Icon Keep all conversations and noise at a level that is non-disruptive for others. Be aware that large group conversations can be disruptive in our space, even at normal volume.

Checkmark Icon The 2nd floor is designated a “Quiet Floor” intended for individuals or groups of 3 or fewer who do not need to engage in collaborative discussions. All conversations on the 2nd floor should be brief and respectful of your fellow students.

Checkmark Icon Groups of 3 or more are welcome on the 1st floor as long as they can maintain a non-disruptive level of conversation.

Checkmark Icon If you need a space more conducive to collaboration or a large group of 5 or more, you may use the classroom (116) or a group study room.

Checkmark Icon If you need a silent study space, please use the Special Collections Reading Room (108). NO talking or group work allowed in 108. NO food or drink is allowed in 108.

Checkmark Icon The use of external speakers or the playing of audio from any device, including LLC computers, is prohibited unless you are in a study room or the classroom (116).

Checkmark Icon If you need to make or take a phone call, please step into one of our study rooms or outside the LLC.

Checkmark Icon Follow copyright laws, including refraining from systematically downloading, printing, scanning or disseminating content in violation of copyright laws.

Checkmark Icon Food and drink are welcome in the LLC (except for 108) as long as you adhere to our “leave no trace” policy. Please dispose of all containers and leftovers in trash cans and clean up any remaining messes, such as spills or crumbs. Cleaning supplies are available at the service desk.

Checkmark Icon Never leave personal items or library laptops unattended. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items and staff cannot watch or hold personal items for patrons.

Checkmark Icon While patrons of all ages are welcome in the LLC, children under the age of 14 must always be accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian. Library employees are not responsible for the safety of unsupervised children, nor the material they might encounter in our building.

Checkmark Icon The rearranging of tables or chairs is not allowed anywhere in the LLC except in the LLC classroom (116).

Checkmark Icon Patrons are not allowed in staff only areas and offices unless by appointment or invited by a member of staff.

Checkmark Icon The posting of materials on our bulletin board can only be done when they are consistent.

Checkmark Icon There is no soliciting allowed within the LLC except for USU Eastern approved or related activities.

Checkmark Icon Respect and follow all instructions given by LLC Staff, including student staff. This includes instructions to exit the building at closing time or during fire alarms.

Violations of these expectations may result in a verbal warning from LLC staff and being asked to leave or move to a different location within the building. Repeated or serious violations, including refusal to comply with staff directions or disruptive behavior, may result in campus police being contacted, and, if you are a student, a report being filed per Student Code V-3-B6 and V-3-B10.
