Placing materials on reserve helps USU students succeed by providing alternative access to course materials that may be supplemental, expensive, or difficult to obtain, or in high demand.

Requests to place items on reserve for students to use for your courses may be submitted through the Materials Reserve Form below.

Retention and Copyright Policies

If we do not hear from you by the last day of the semester in which your item(s) expire, the hard copies of your reserve materials will be returned. If you would like an item removed from reserve before then, please contact us.

Copyright Restrictions

Placement of materials on reserve constitutes acceptance of the terms as set forth below.

Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, USC) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. (General Rule: 10% of a book or 1 chapter, whichever is less).

Statement of Responsibility

  1. The same regulations and safeguards applicable to library materials that are placed on reserve apply to personal copies as well.
  2. The library does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to personal copies.
  3. Faculty members are responsible for collecting their own material and bringing it to the USU Eastern Library and Learning Commons.
  4. The warning on copyright restrictions must have been read, and full responsibility for compliance is accepted.
